Welcome & goodbye

Greet new members automatically and say goodbye to everyone who leaves – with your own text and an image card.

SetupCommandsDashboardMessages

With welcome and leave messages, yurna automatically posts in a channel of your choice whenever someone joins or leaves your server. Each message is an embed with a title and text, followed by an image card showing the member's avatar and name. The two messages are independent, so you can use just one of them if you like.

You'll find the settings under Dashboard → Community → Welcome & goodbye (/dashboard/<server>/messages).

Setting it up#

  1. In the dashboard, open Community → Welcome & goodbye.
  2. In the Welcome messages section, turn on the switch at the top right.
  3. Under Channel, pick the text channel where the greeting should appear. You can't save without a channel.
  4. Adjust the Title and Description. The Preview on the right shows you right away how the message will look in Discord.
  5. Click Save. Only then is the switch applied as well.
  6. Repeat this in the Leave messages section if you want.

Note

Flipping the switch on its own doesn't change anything. yurna only sends the message once you click Save after turning it on.

Settings#

  • Channel – a text channel yurna is allowed to post in (required).
  • Title – up to 250 characters.
  • Description – up to 2040 characters. Discord markdown such as bold, italics or quotes with > works.
  • Image – the card below the message is designed in the card designer. The Design card button takes you straight there.

If you leave the title or description empty, yurna uses a default text.

Placeholders#

PlaceholderReplaced with
{user}the member's display name
{guild}your server's name

Tip

{user} inserts the name as plain text – it's not a mention, so the member won't get pinged.

Commands#

You can also control welcome and leave messages right from Discord.

CommandWhat it doesWho can use it
/welcome enableTurns welcome messages on. Options: channel (required), title, descriptionMembers with "Manage Server"
/welcome disableTurns welcome messages offMembers with "Manage Server"
/welcome checkShows whether they're on, in which channel and with which textMembers with "Manage Server"
/leave enableTurns leave messages on. Options: channel (required), title, descriptionMembers with "Manage Server"
/leave disableTurns leave messages offMembers with "Manage Server"
/leave checkShows the current state of leave messagesMembers with "Manage Server"

If you leave out the title or description with enable, yurna uses the default text – any text you saved in the dashboard before is replaced.

Common problems#

  • No message shows up. yurna needs the View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links and Attach Files permissions in the chosen channel. If any of them is missing, the message is silently skipped.
  • /welcome says the bot is missing permissions. For the /welcome and /leave commands, yurna itself needs the "Manage Server" permission. The dashboard doesn't require this.
  • The message turned itself off. If the channel was deleted or yurna can no longer see it, /welcome check or /leave check switches the message off automatically. Pick a new channel and turn it back on.
  • The image doesn't look the way you want. You change the card's colours, texts and background in the card designer, not here.
